I am moving a pale yellow couch and chair into a home with old mahogny-colored paneling and dark kitchen cabinetry. most of the paneling will be painted, but the remainder of the dark woods will stay. I also have a mahoganey table that will go in the dining area. (It's all open to each other.)
I am looking for some recommendations for paint colors to lighten up the space. I don't want red because I am trying to move away from the red, yellow and green color scheme I've had for years. As for accessories/home decorations, I'm buying new. It's just the big pieces I'm taking.
Any suggestions are appreciated. thank you!
If I am understanding correctly, you have a pale color sofa, dark woods and want a color choice for the walls.
A compliment to yellow is blue or blue/violet. you may be able to find a nice shade, probably a medium depth of color so it does not look too pastel or too dark, that goes with the wood and the sofa.
A medium teal may also look good.
Or another option would be a deeper shade of the sofa color with an accent color(violets, blues, teals) or prints that contain the yellows, dark mahoganies and the accent color/s.
I think I would go with yellow about two tones deeper than the couch. Then use semi-gloss white on the door casings and baseboards. The effect will be to bring out your sunny yellow and lighten the room while creating dramatic effect. I would go with plain flat white on the ceiling if it is textured; if it is not textured, I'd use a textured white paint so the rooms stay bright without having a sterile feel. Texturing always helps make a room feel more comfortable and cosy.
Here is a trick. go to the paint store and ask what the formulas are for your pale yellow and mahogany. what ever colors are in the formula are ALL those colors that will work. Also off the top of my head a bright orange sounds good.
What paint colors match pale yellow and mahoganey?
