What makes Amish Furniture–Amish?

I have just starting looking at this furniture, and I love the concept that it's solid wood instead of either cheap wood stained dark, or worse--veneers. I think veneer is okay to look at, but it's not very durable.

The assumption when they call it Amish Furniture, that's made by some technology-malcontents who made this solid 1800 and 1900 century style furniture. their logos are often their buggies and people plowing, then once you get into the sites there is either no prices or somewhat very expensive furniture, anywhere from $500 for an intable, to $2000 for a dining room table. after going though many sites and showrooms I am also seeing a lot of contemporary designs.

I kind of get the feeling that some of this furniture is getting passed off as being made by the Amish, but what are the hallmarks of Amish Furniture? do they burn in or mark their furniture in specific ways? Are there any websites that dedicate on what is real, and what is not?

Thanks!

the wood is choice....the work is actually CRAFTED....meaning done by hand, with little use of any technology to make the work ...commercial....

furniture has become more of the utility of it and ease to assemble yourself.....

quality furniture is made of wood with quality and durability built right in....

it is not Junk furniture and you pay for that.

Means only hand tools were used
Then there is Amish Style which is mass produced with simple lines
Best and cheapest way is to go to Amish country in PA or Ohio, buy what you want and arrange to ship it home. Amish people do not use computers, credit card machines so doubt those online sites are theirs. most likely a middleman

What makes Amish furniture Amish is that it is crafted by the Amish. the Amish do use power tools to build their furniture, but you won't find an assembly line in their shops. Online sites that sell Amish furniture will not be run the Amish themselves. These sites are run by non-Amish who buy direct from the Amish craftsman and then resell. there are many Amish furniture builders in Lancaster County, PA that you can buy direct from and the prices will be much lower, but you need to come here to buy it.

unless the pine is really thin and the part. board really thick, solid wood will always be MUCH MUCH stronger! (otherwise they'd only make particleboard, right?)

We are proud that our cabinets are all wood; the face frame of the cabinet is solid wood, and the shelf is plywood.
