the fireplace is done in terra cotta tiles (including the hearth). there is a copper door over the fireplace opening. copper ceiling tiles, and dark wood panelling that goes about 2 1/2 feet up the wall from the floor. the floor is medium/dark hardwood. right now the walls are kind of a putty color (like the color of an old band aid) its real ugly--the previous owners did it. this color would also have to extend into the dining room because the two rooms are seperated only by an arch. also what color do you think the window treatment should be? the only furniture i have is a reddish-brown leather love seat and a big rattan wing-back armchair. i have 2 mission-style table lamps with amber glass shades. the hanging light fixture in the dining room is similar. whats some ideas for color and maybe furniture?
Im thinking a pale minty green!!
Since the wood is on the darker side I would use a mustard yellow, or some sort of a yellow to brighten things up while keeping it "serious". you could put orange in the dining room. I've seen these in many beautiful Mexican houses, done in the rustic style-which sounds like your furniture already fits! I can actually almost picture it. also, green would make a good accent color, in the form of plants or pottery, it would tie in the bright colors with the dark wood and bring it "alive".
SAGE GREEN WOULD BE FABULOUS! TRY AN EGGSHELL OR SATIN FINISH PAINT, I RECCOMEND "CLOVERDALE" BRAND IF YOU CAN FIND IT IN YOUR AREA. NOT a DARK SAGE, MEDIUM WOULD BE GOOD IN a ROOM THAT SIZE--YOU CAN STOP THIS COLOR AT THE ARCH AND PAINT THE DINING ROOM a DIFFERENT COLOR BUT I WOULD SUGGEST YOU FIND a PAINT SWATCH-WHICH CONTAINS SEVERAL COLORS IN THE SAME CATEGORY AND STICK TO THAT ONE SWATCH--THAT IS WHAT I DID (MY FRIENDS OWN THEIR OWN PROFESSIONAL PAINTING COMPANY) AND IT LOOKS GREAT. YOU CAN USE WINDOW SCARVES ON FANCY RODS AND THE 2 1/2 INCH WIDE WHITE BLINDS (THEY LOOK LIKE REAL WOOD AND ALSO COME IN WOOD TONES IF YOU LIKE THAT BETTER) LOOK GREAT BENEATH THEM. YOU MIGHT WANT TO USE RED SCARVES AND ACCENTS SEEING AS YOU ARLEADY HAVE THIS COLOR IN YOUR LOVE SEAT --DARK RED, NOT BRIGHT-BROWN IS GOOD ALSO--TERRA COTTA IS AN EARTH TONE SO ALL THESE COLORS WILL LOOK GOOD WITH THAT AND THE COPPER ALSO. SOUND BEAUTIFUL
Go to HGTV and play around with the color wheel.
Everybody likes different colors...I would stay neutral and accent with red and amber. Others like to go bold.
Good luck!
I'd go with a form of mossy green because the copper. you sure won't want to go dark, I'd also use a semi gloss. maybe texture it for depth.
DAMn, it sounds like a great house.
I would suggest your standard neutral light tan/ beige, whatever you want to call it....a variation on the old band aid color, yes, but a world of difference
What color walls would look good with terra cotta tiles?
