Its a small living room combined with a kitchen. I have a dark brown leather sofa and dark maroon curtains. The floors are hardwood and a dark brown. I just got a rug that is a combination of red,yellow,green,dark blue and our dining room table is glass with white chairs. I was thinking of painting the walls purple because that's my favorite color but i don't know if it will match well with the furniture. I was thinking a dark red but read that color can be overwhelming. also since my living room is combined with a kitchen should i paint everything the same color or the living room one color and the kitchen another? I'm not sure what to do and there are so many possibilities!
I think you might want to paint it like a light brown in both of the rooms
I would recommend the color that you Don't love alot, or don't hate alot. like a warm color. not a color that matches with your furniture. good luck choosing!
Since you have an area rug I would concentrate on using those colors, you don't mention that there is purple in the area rug so don't introduce another color......go get paint chips of the colors that is in the rug and tape them up by your drapes and see how it looks. Another thought would be to use 2 of the colors in the rug and paint the wall that goes from the living room into the kitchen area the color that best suits both rooms and then do all the other walls one of the other colors.
Magnolia is the clear choice here. dark colours make rooms look small and going into the kitchen with the same colour would be natural if the kitchen units are light or white, all the better.
