Switching the style of this table?

I have a restored turn of the century home that has 10ft ceilings and crystal lights, sconses etc.
My sister in law is giving us her dining set that is very country looking with light oak and windsor looking chairs.

so, my question is: Is there any way to make this look more formal/traditional? Maybe a dark stain and diff. chairs? Or is there a way to make the styles blend? Ideas please.

stain it black and the chairs

Damask or tapestry looking slip covers and cushions for the chairs a darker stain and and co-ordinated runner on the table. You can even use foam to sculpt the chairs to give them a more substantial backing then use buttons to "tuft" the back and give the chairs a more Windsor style. Good Luck!
