Suggested furniture layout for through lounge?

The room is probably about 30 ft long, by about 12 ft wide (roughly) & has parquet flooring. there are patio doors on one end & a bay window on the other. The door is on the long wall nearer to the bay window. On the opposite long wall - in the centre, there is a recess (which measures about 20 inches wide by about 24 inches long) where a small square-ish wood burner made of metal sits & there is tiled black flooring for the fire place floor area. Above the metal wood burner is a wooden shelf (which is about 4 foot wide) & either side of the shelf are two stained glass windows which measure about 1 foot wide & 2 foot long each window.

I hope this description is not too long confusing. I'm falling asleep!

The kids don't want dining table and chairs in there. Do they think it's up to them?! (There is a separate area where a dining table & chairs can go).

In rooms like this, you'll usually have seating & TV down one end, and a table and chairs down the other.

But if you don't want that, then perhaps create a study area with a desk & bookshelves etc. if you have one long room full of sofas and armchairs it'll look weird.

Sounds lovely, btw. Is it a Victorian conversion?

Long, narrow rooms always present a challenge, & I'm not clear on who will be using the room, is this for college kids, or your own at home? At any rate, you'll have to divide it into separate areas, & one way to start is by using rugs to delineate each area. (Or the floor covering of your choice.) You can also use screens to section off one of the areas. So if you divided it into 3 areas, you could leave the end that's used the most often with the wood parquet floors, then use a large rectangle or square rug in the middle, then either leave the other end as bare wood floors, or put a sisal rug or whatever. You just have to decide what or how you want to use each area, & I'm not sure how or who will be using it, so I can't really offer any suggestions there. I would tend to put the living area near the heat source, in which case you could also use some type of an entertainment wall divider to help section off one of the areas. I wish I could see a picture, it sounds like it has tons of potential! have fun, hope this helped.
