I'm moving from Chicago, IL to Houston, TX. I already have two job interviews set up for next week and have already been preapproved for apartment so far so good.
My biggest set back is how to get my stuff down there. I'm selling my living room set, dining room & bedroom set. so I'm taking any furniture with me because it seems easier to sell it then to pay to move it. I can just buy new stuff cheaper. However, I also have a '05 Chrysler Sebring that I want to take with me. everyone keeps telling me that I shouldn't put the miles on it by driving it. But it doesn't make since to ship it. I'm only taking cloths, kitchenware, 2 TV's and some nick nacks that I could put in a small trailer and hook up to the car. But people laugh at me when I say I'm going to drive it down there. It's 1200 miles but I'm just trying to go the cheapest route.
Any suggestions?
I've moved that way a couple of times. Why does other peoples opinion matter? just do what you need to do....be safe and good luck on your trip.
Why wouldn't you drive your car there? Shipping it would just be a waste of money. I think you have the right idea and you shouldn't listen to what other people are saying.
1200 miles is nothing. that is what an average person puts on their car in a year. You own the car it isn't a clunker.
Have a great trip, and enjoy the country!!
ummmm.... just wondering.. if you dont drive the car how else are you going to get there and take all your stuff since you are selling the majority of your stuff so you dont have to pay to ship it?????
So i assume you had planned on packing all your stuff and driving it. that requires a vehicle...
So unless you planned on renting a UHaul or something you would need to drive the car. even if you planned on renting a UHaul you can (for much cheaper than shipping it) rent an additional trailer for the car so you dont put the miles on it.
I have done that move three times in as many years. just make sure to get your car checked out before you drive, oil change and tire pressure mainly. I've driven a vehicle from Alabama to California to Colorado and I haven't had any problems with the vehicle, it was a 2004 Camry. Vehicles today are built to take a lot of miles on them so don't be worried about driving your vehicle. Good luck and congratulations on your new move.
People drive further than that all the time. besides, you'll probably only drive it once, right? I'm sure it would cost a small fortune to ship all your stuff there.
Relocating to another state..any suggestions?
