Have inherited an antique dining table and there is a ring mark in the middle which spolis the look of the table. How to get rid of this without any damage.
If it's a white mark then it's probably caused by polish solids rising to the surface after having a hot dish placed on it. This can be removed but a lot of care must be taken and is time consuming.
Place a soft clean cloth over the mark, heat an iron, use the tip only over a small part of the mark, checking frequently that the natural colour is coming back. Takes time and care, failing that you'll need to get it done proffesionally.
Hello Sunshine,
If you are fairly sure that it is a water mark, left from a cold beverage for example, it might be an easy fix. Try using a dab of tooth paste. just swirl a bit of it around on that ring with your finger, wipe clean with damp cloth, and polish as usual. Worked great for me.
Sincerely, Robert
Metal polish will sort it. make sure it a smooth one not an abrasive one, apply with soft cloth and a lot of applying and polishing, but it does work
Try a paste made with cigarette ash and cooking oil rubbed in very gently with a soft cloth.
i hear vinegar gets rid of it but if its antique then go see a specialist cos it might damage it
