How deep does your brainwashing go?

My brainwashing goes much deeper than I had imagined:

The wife and I went to a local furniture store this evening to take advantage of a sale they had. we purchased a dining room table and 4 chairs to replace the 25 year old set we have. our set is still in good condition so I asked the salesman if he knew of a charitable organization that could find a needy family for our existing set. he said yes and took me to the counter where a business card was taped. he took out his business card to write the phone number down. while he was doing so I glanced at the card taped to the counter. I spotted “St. Vincent’s” and “prayer” on the card (I did not have my reading glasses on). I took Ken’s card, thanked him and we left.

For some reason on the drive home I recited to myself:

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep,
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.

I chuckled to myself and thought: it has been over 45 years since I have said that prayer, yet I still remember it word for word. Brainwashing is, indeed, an extremely powerful tool.

If I can, at the age of 10 or so, realize and readily admitt that I was being brainwashed, why is it so difficult for others to see? I have seen people in their late 70’s who still deny being brainwashed, but can recite “The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.” at the drop of a hat -- without thinking twice about it. And when I ask them if they think it is true they say yes -- once again without thinking about it. And then when I ask them if they think I am corrupt and vile and no good, they stutter, think for a while and say no. The evidence of their brainwashing is right there in front of their face, yet they fail to see it. When I ask them why they picked that particular verse, they shake their head and tell me it was the first one that came to mind. Why is it so hard for some people to see that they have been brainwashed, especially when it is so blatantly obvious? I do not think I will ever understand why anyone would willingly give control of their mind to someone else.

When I hear the opening notes of "Across the Universe", I immediately remember and anticipate the coming lyrics.

Has John Lennon brain washed me? Or am I simply responding to memory cues?

Golf was my savior from brainwashing, I stopped going to church at an early age because it interfered with a ladies' nine hole group on Sundays at my mother's Golf Club.

Brainwashed sounds like such a bad word... I prefer to say that I am being indoctrinated into my religion.

maybe you can say that they do not fully understandy why 10x10=100 but are you going to say that they are brainwashed too?

the term "brainwashed" is cannot be properly used unless you include that the deeply indoctrinated persons beliefs are so strong that it overides logical sense. That verse that you quoted makes perfectly good sense to me and i can explain it to you when you ask the question.

That's how memory works. You're talking about Memory triggers which are natural.

As for traditions, cultures, religion...I get your point, but in making your point it is necessary for you to take the inventory of others just as they are taking your inventory which is what I think you are objecting to? You like to question, to reason, to think for yourself and you are choosing to reject certain cultural ideology while accepting other cultural ideology.

Some things are just human nature. Judge not lest ye be judged. And yet we must use our judgment most days of our lives in order to navigate our world. And likewise, we are judged. If we stop passing judgment, does that mean others will not judge us? Or does it mean, as my grandmother used to say, what we don't like about others has something to do with what we don't like about ourselves?

The soul si a very powerful thing. it is very hard to unlearn something than it is to learn something, and once you believe something, right or wrong, it becomes locked into your soul, and it is usually only replaced by the truth of God's word. even Christianity is brainwashing, but it is the only brainwashing that cleanse the soul of man, while the other religions and their brainwashing brings the soul into bondage to lies and deceptions. once they are locked in as truth, many times they will not be released, even when the real truth is presented. I had to unlearn the religious things I heard about God, and searched his word, and lock in the truth which the Holy Spirit revealed. here is the verse for real, cleanse the soul brainwashing ( Ephesians 5:26-27 and Titus 3:5-6 ).

I'm wondering the same thing as you. In britain in schools I was forced into prayers and hymns and I can still remember lots of them, way back from primary school, "all things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, the Lord God made them all, la, la, la, la" Also the Lords prayer. And yet even at this young age I had an internal scowl at the thought that God was wonderful and yet there was so much suffering in the world. so brainwashing did not work on me in the least. I even once had a boyfriend who was secretly a Jehovah Witness who tried subtle techniques over a long period of on me and trying to scare me about no life after death if I didn't believe in God. more scary to me though was how he was buying the theory of a paradise earth where no one ages or dies or gets sad about anything and somehow magically no damage is done to the environment and then just for fun after a 1000 years God will bring out the devil to play again!

I'm not sure I understand, you say that they were brainwashed because they could recite the verses still? but how do you know they aren't atheist now, for example? Wouldn't that mean they thought critically about their views then changed them? (although I am not condoning atheism or religion either way, I am just curious about what you mean when you say that they are brainwashed).

i do not believe in the bible god, but my family does and although in my head i believe that they are brainwashed for believing in something that resembles a cult and sounds very foolish. i never push the argument because brainwashing is good in a lot of ways, take a reformed drug addict that says s/he was saved from drugs by jesus who other wised would been a junkie but now has changed their ways. i think that is good and don't want to make them think that it was a bad decision. as long as they do not push these ideas on me im ok with it

i think not. we retain information that we use the most and then there is the random memory...think of your brain as a hard drive that probably needs serious defragging...

Having been born and raised in high mind control cult, I hear you well.

All fundamentalist religious zealots fall on the extreme side of brainwashing. Because their dogma, doctrines, methods of worship, are so radical from the mainstream they must compensate or nullify the personal pain it causes them.

All of these individuals can quickly playback 'mind tapes' that justify their radical stands. You can watch their faces when confronted with those who oppose their stands, it is as if a calming cloud forms over the eyes and they retort with very similar sounding responses ie:

God is great, Allah is great, Praise the Lord
Jesus loves you
Jehovah knows
God in his due time
It is a mystery
Only god knows
Have faith
Satan made it happen

All of these triggering mind numbing repetive prayers, that usually are centered around protection from the evil questioner.

If the religious/cult leaders are really proficient, watch out, they can almost breed a universal mind set, by demanding unquestioning study of their words and directives. Adding the Bible or Book of Mormon or Quran can cement the deal. its over your butt belongs to them.

system that surrounds our earth, the human machine body you live in
that man cannot replicate - especially without an already formed body.

I mean c-mon, you can't really think that everything that exists around
you, came by chance..... the eyes you look with (that work better then a camera). The ears
you hear with that give you "surround sound"; the voice you speak with
that not only communicates with other beings but is able to hit all sorts
of octavals. Your skin never stains. The magical water that we have
supply of keeps you alive. I mean... I can go on & on. but you get my point..
don't you? It's a machine unlike any other. Better then laptops, desktops,
tv's, phones, etc. our entire lives we love, we share, we care, etc. Machines
cannot do this. Despite what Hollywood's : "Ai", "Terminator", "Short-Circuit",
"Avatar" films display.

If you believe you are brain-washed because of what you stated..
then you may as well say, the entire world is brain-washed.
Including the atheists, the agnostics, etc.

My advice is "Listen to Your Conscience that directs you to what is right & wrong. Quit brain-washing yourself with the Public School Systems of this Century. You can learn much from them about what exists today.. but they can never teach you the 'moral-truth' of your heart - nor, about the 'spiritual-you' that sits inside your body." Don't be distracted.

Is it by spiritual captivity caused from these “games” / practices that people / victims are forced with witchcraft to go through the “secret ceremony” performed with transcendental meditation? In said transcendental meditation state, the victims are forced to except the worship of one of “Satan’s Secret Society’s” many "Gods".
