Home decorating question.. color to compliment sage green?

As much as I love home decorating and watching shows on the subject, I'm still squeamish when it comes to taking the leap. my living room couches are sage green and most of my other furniture is a dark wood. my dining room table in the same space is brown marble with chocolate brown seating. three things I keep putting off purchasing are accent pillows, curtains and area rugs because I cant figure out what color to go with. my brain tells me to get everything matchy matchy but I know I need to be a little more brave. I've seen a lot of people go with a scheme of reds and yellows against greens and I'm not a fan of these colors combined. I also tend to avoid white with small kids. any ideas?

chocolate brown, greens and blues all look beautiful together. you can find a lot of pillows and accessories like at tj maxx if you have one near you for a low cost. you can mix the colors in just throw pillows and find green and blue vases and lamps for the room. dark brown curtains and rug would look great. a light blue like robin's egg blue would be best so it doesnt compete much w/ the dark brown.

i know someone who has sage green couches! they have medium blueish-gray walls. a floral artistic area rug that is mainly a tan color with some orange, bright green, aqua colors in it. white and other abstract accent pillows. dark brown furniture. and a medium colored hardwood floor. i think it all looks great.

i think if you are able to find a funky, yet sophisticated area rug (rather than a solid colored one) that goes with your sage green couches then you should build off of those items. keep the walls normal looking -no bright orange, red, etc. stick to light-medium shades of blue, green, gray, beige, etc. add pops of color in with the area rug and accent pillows and maybe some decorative decor.
once you find the right items you'll know it!
