Help me arrange my furniture!!! Need a girls advice!?

I need someone who has a good eye on this stuff. I have a 1 bedroom apartment. It's basically a big rectangle.

From the front door, there is a kitchen on the left side and then a small wall and then the bedroom and bathroom/hallway on the left and then the living room opens up a little. But its a big long rectangle. I have a 3 person couch, chair, coffee table, TV, round table with 4 chairs. Two desks and two stand alone lamps.

Should I keep the dining table up by the kitchen and use the couch to separate the kitchen area from the sliding glass door area? or should I just put the couch along the wall and keep the apartment one long rectangle? How would you arrange the furniture?

I am really tired, too tired to fully think out a good answer, but I found SIMS (the game) to be pretty good for decorating. Very sad I know.
