Furniture suggestion!!?

I just built a new house that has a Study room with hardwood all over(walls, floor and ceiling) and built-in shelves. The study room is on the right of the foyer when you first walk in and has french doors. on the left of the foyer is the dining room and to the front is the LR and kit and BR. I mainly use it for the computer and the kids have their own and my huband uses his laptop.
My elderly mother visits often and has a hard time getting up and down the stairs, so she is really nagging me to put a sofa bed in there so she doesn't have to go up and down the stairs. I don't really mind but I'm just concerned about how a day bed is going to look with the Den being near the entrance of the house? Does anyone think it's going to ruin the appearance of the Study? The room is about 13x13 so it will fit.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
What would you think if you walked in a nice house and saw a study room that has a sofa bed in it (but with a nice sofa bed cover and cushions).

What about a good quality sofa bed?

Would look fine. if there's room, maybe a small coffee table or something near it. You may find the family using it when they're in that room, too. However, you need to make double sure to have excellent locks on the door. I am thinking about that college student who disappeared in the middle of the night a couple weeks ago. Unlocked door.

I'm an upholsterer and I hate "sofa beds" (hide-a-beds)

Because it's your MOM, you might not like my first choice; An inflatable mattress... (Let the furniture be for sitting and provide the bed by other means.) One of those handy dandy screw-driver, hammer, wrench thingies is NOT what you reach for if you want a hammer or a wrench...

a combination bed/sofa leaves you sleeping on bars and sitting on the mechanism, near the arms... and leaning in toward the center...

A Camping supply place will have a platform so that the inflated mattress is not on the floor but is "bed height". they fold up for storage. A vacuum (backwards) or a hair dryer fills them up quickly...

just... my two cents

A 'daybed' is just a twin bed dressed up to look like a sofa. they can be very pretty and even classy -- but they are horrible to sit on! if no one will be using it as a sofa, if it's only there for looks, then a daybed will suit your purpose very well.

If you want something that people can actually sit on, then you will need some type of sofa bed. DON'T get the standard pull-out type -- they are HORRIBLE to sleep on. But they make all sorts of new types of sofas that convert into beds. Some pull open like a futon, some have arms that go down to make a bed...

Do a little more research, both online and in furniture stores. I'm sure you will find something that suits your needs.

I personally feel that a sofa bed would benefit the style of this room opposed to a day bed. It is more formal and can be further dressed up with throw pillows. By adding a coffee table you are creating a sitting area that can be used by ALL.
