Do British people in service industries have no pride? What is the worst service you have received recently?

We have been renovating our house and 3 sets of plasterers let us down, either not turning up, or disappearing off the job. Probably because it was more difficult than they anticipated. To be ready by Christmas, we had to pay 3 times as much to get our plastering done. The delay meant I couldn’t have my new staircase fitted or take delivery of a new dining room suite till 3 weeks before Christmas. Then the furniture company didn’t call me back when they said they would to arrange the delivery, and I had trouble getting hold of them even though it had been paid for in August. Email links on their website to every department all bounced back as undeliverable and they didn't answer the phone. Eventually by keep redialling, I got through and they said they were to busy to answer their phones as two delivery people had walked out and they had 400 orders to deliver in a week.

At the same time our new stair spindles and handrails did not arrive as promised on the Saturday before Christmas, even though we had paid extra for a Saturday delivery. That meant the staircase couldn’t be finished in time for Christmas, so was unsafe for my grandchildren to come round. Finally, 2 days before Christmas “Solid Oak Warehouse” sent a table but no chairs or sideboard - just a letter saying they’d run out of chairs and would send them on, hoping it "didn't put us out too much" - no mention of the sideboard, clearly they had double sold them. This finally forced us to cancel dinner I had planned for 10 at our house. With a turkey too large to go in anyone elses oven I had to cook it at home and cart it to my elderly mothers for us to eat.

One guest affected was my 93 yr old uncle who cheered me up by giving me the money to buy the TV of my dreams. On Christmas day, I found the LG 7000 series TV I wanted reduced by £450 from Curry’s online, on Boxing Day they telephone and confirmed delivery for the Monday after Christmas. Then I had reason to check something about the order and called today to find that it had been cancelled due to too many poeple ordering, but they hadn’t told us. having ordered wall bracket & leads on line we charged around from store to store today trying to locate one, I finally got my hands on an ex-display model in a Curry's store, they checked it was ok to sell it, and just as they were about to press the final button on the transaction, my husband saw someone else taking away the TV. it turned out that they had also purchased it, a few seconds ahead of us at another till. So the second time in a week something we had purchased was double sold. by now it was nearing closing time and Curry's customer service department told me they had run out everywhere in the country earlier today and even if they could find one somewhere, the sale ended today - now!

Knowing of my disappointment my son found one the same price as Curry's at Pix-mania. I got on line to order and every time I reached the end of the payment process it kept saying "Sorry unable to process your order at this time”. Then I noticed something, Pix-mania is affiliated to Curry's! Is it any wonder all these companies are going under? Finally, I found one through Amazon from Microtronics Centre for a £150 more, but the seller - who was not English - communicated with me immediately this evening and he even said happy new Year. what a difference!

No offense, but you should have expected that kind of stuff to happen the week before Christmas. you NEVER should have expected all that to go smoothly the week before Christmas. YOU should have planned the timing of these things better so that it was done before Christmas.
