I purchased a dining table set (about 3,600) from a department store in NJ (they only have the one store in NJ- non internet sales). However, I was told that I had to pay NY sales tax because taxes are charged at the point of delivery. Is the tax treatment different for a telephone order as opposed to non-web based transaction. I've contacted furniture stores outside NY before and was told I did not have to pay sales tax. Somehow I feel like I was cheated and but just want to confirm.
Buy in NJ, still pay NY sales tax?
