Brand new home - front room (which is supposed to be a formal dining room, but we don't need one) is empty and I cant figure out what to use it as. Since you see it as soon as you enter the house, I thought I'd use it as a receiving room for guests with a sofa, 2 chairs, coffee table and 2 book cases.
I toyed with the idea of making it a playroom for my 3yo but then it will always be chaotic!
We thought about making it into a library with our computer there, but we don't have the cable outlet.
Any ideas on what else would be a good use for this space?
The playroom idea is good if you have some way of closing off the view of the room, like french doors, for instance otherwise as you said, the room would not look attractive but instead cluttered and messy everytime you or others enter the home.
How about a quiet reading/relaxing room.
Set it up as you suggested with a couple of comfy chairs, an ottoman or two, a end table or two near the chairs, a beautiful area rug, bookshelf and reading lamp/s.
