we have silk dining room chairs that got grease on them and i'm not sure if there's a good way to get it out without staining the rest of the fabric?
That's probably a specialist cleaning job, as oil comes out best with alkaline surfactants, but alkaline pH is pretty tough on silk, and many dark colored silks will bleed with such a detergent. the alternative would be a nonpolar solvent or solvents that I wouldn't recommend for homeowners. You may be able to adsorb some of the oil with something like corn starch, patted in, allowed to sit for a bit, then vacuumed back out. I'd still recommend a specialist cleaner unless you're prepared for the thought of possibly having to recover the chairs.
Anyone know how to get oil out of silk chairs? without ruining chair fabric?
